Console version Kickstarter backers aren't particularly happy about that considering many of them don't even have these new systems yet. Granted, the development of those console versions has been anything but smooth, in fact the game was promised for PS4/Xbox One and it seems like they are just dropping that idea altogether. The reception of Iron Harvest on consoles might lay foundations for the future of RTS on consoles.

The game released on PC last year and the PS5/XSX versions are supposedly finally releasing at the end of this month so let's see how that goes. That being said, Iron Harvest was Kickstarted with the promise of console versions. When discussing stellar RTS titles, the Company of Heroes franchise deserves to be on the list. Perhaps the most obvious alternative to Age of Empires is Age of Mythology, a spinoff title. Contrary to what you’d experience with most of the games on the list, it offers. Starting with minimal resources, players are challenged to build their tribes into great civilizations. Second of all, Age of Empires and Total War are completely different games.
15-20 years is a long time and that's how long it has been since those games, I don't think that argument has much relevance today.
